Its surface is approximately 12,000 km², which is about 23% of the total area of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the east it borders with Montenegro, in the north and west with Bosnia, and in the south and southwest it touches the Adriatic Sea and Croatia. Herzegovina belongs to one of the most beautiful regions in this part of Europe. At the same time it is mountainous, both lowland and coastal, but also continental. It is composed of picturesque mountains, green rivers, beautiful nature parks with diverse flora and fauna, karst fields, blue sea, and unique and rich cultural and historical heritage. Herzegovina is a subtle and unimposing but at the same time open and hospitable Mediterranean region.
